Piet AdamsChief Viticulturist and Mentor
Born and Raised on the farm, Piet showed amazing leadership qualities from a very early age and has been leading the team in the vines for over 30 years. Aside from his extensive knowledge and experience he is an incredibly humble man with a wicked sense of humour.
Anna-Marie AdamsHead Teacher of the Crèche
Married to Piet, Anna-Marie has been running the Crèche since its conception. Totally dedicated to empowering children through education she gives the appearance of a swan; strong, peaceful and graceful on the surface of the water, but paddling away like crazy underneath. Thanks to her, our children have a brighter future.
Was the longest serving member of the farming team (after Piet) though retired earlier in 2015, she has now joined the team in the Crèche. Full of positive energy and a smile as big as the Cheshire Cat, the children are currently benefiting from her immense wisdom and generous heart.
Still currently active in the vines, Baba is the moral compass of the farm community. Softly spoken but with a determination made from steel.
Ricardo AdamsAssistant Wine Maker and Chief Engineer of the Farm
Not only has Ricardo taught himself how to make wine he also bares the responsibility of ensuring the infrastructure of the property is fully maintained. Plumbing, electrical circuitry, construction and general maintenance guru are some of his attributes. Always happy to be of service and a great example of how the Crèche has helped to develop an outstanding member of society.
Works hand in hand with Ricardo and is an incredibly skilled JCB driver. He makes digging holes and burying pipes look like an art form. Aside from his generous sense of humour, he is committed to professionalism in the workplace. His only draw-back is that he supports the New Zealand rugby team!
Viticultural supervisor and self-taught music maker. During the day Jan keeps the farming team in good spirits with his jovial personality and good humour. In his spare time however, he turns into an impassioned musician - Jimmy Hendricks meets Jonny Clegg!
Co-Owner of Rust en Vrede Farm, along with his brother Johan. Tjuks is the driving force behind all aspects of the farm and his local community. A man of few words and many actions. The Captain of the ship, he continues to navigate us through both calm and troubled waters, providing everyone on the farm with a safe harbour. A strong pair of shoulders and a keen sense of social justice.
Co-owner of Rust en Vrede Farm and responsible for the culture of the property. Johan keeps us motivated and ensures that the farm runs like a well-oiled machine. Firm but fair, he manages the team on a day to day basis and has his fingers firmly on the pulse. Both brothers are actively involved, continuously walking the property multiple times a day. Often, when reporting about certain aspects of the farm we are met with the response, “Yes, I know, I saw it earlier”…!
Jack of All Trades…. (Master of none!):
An Engelsman who lived in Burgundy, France, for 14 years, where he studied Viticulture and Oenology. He then went on to manage a small, organic Domaine in Beaune, comprising 6Ha’s of Premiere and Grand Cru vineyards. Having visited South Africa in 1993, Gus moved here permanently in 2007 where he first developed a farm in the Hemel en Aarde valley. He joined us in the winter of 2012 and has been helping with all aspect of Paul Roos Farming and the subsequent wines; from the vineyards to the bottled wine he has been instrumental in developing this project, bringing it to the market place in November 2015...
Cool, off the press...!
