WPRFU AND PAUL ROOS WINE FOR EDUCATION

The Western Province Rugby Football Union was proud to host and support Paul Roos Wine and their worthy educational initiative in the President’s Suite at DHL Newlands on Saturday.

All proceeds for the sale of Paul Roos Wine go to an educational project which supports the children of the farm workers – from creche to university.

The wine is produced on the farm in the Helderberg where legendary Springbok captain Paul Roos was born, and is currently owned by his fifth generation desendants Tjuks and Johan who first opened a creche on the farm in 1983.

This facility was built to ensure that the younger members of the community had a secure learning environment, and has been largely successful with none of the ‘graduates’ ever repeating a school year.

In 2008 a company owned by previously disavantaged members of farm called Paul Roos Farming was created, and a vineyard was developed to supply grapes to wineries in Stellenbosch.

In 2013 the decision was taken to make wine of their own, with all profits from sales providing funding for an educational project which involves upgrading the creche and supporting the chidren as they move right up to university by providing school clothes, textbooks and fees.

President of the Western Province Rugby Football Union Mr Thelo Wakefield said that it was a pleasure to host and support Paul Roos Wine and their worthy cause.

“What Paul Roos Wine is doing for the next generation on their farm is highly commendable, and as the Western Province Rugby Football Union we would like to encourage everyone to support their cause,” he said.
